Washington D.C. which is the capital of the United States of America was known long before as the District of Columbia. Though it has the same name as that of another state, it was founded in July 16, 1790. Its population has been steadily rising, with more than 5 million residents residing in the metropolitan area. Its original settlers were Native Americans called the Nacotchtank lived along the Anacostia River. After that, there were already British colonizers who came along and took over the place.
La Conner is a beautiful town in the Pacific Northwest, located in Skagit County, Washington. Skagit County is in the northwestern portion of the state, and boasts some of the most beautiful countryside around. The has small population of around 840 people, making it a small but vital part of Washington State. La Conner is right on the waters of the Swinomish Channel, a large body of water that feeds into Skagit Bay. The area surrounding provides the nation's largest amount of iris and tulip bulbs.

When I saw a group of middle-aged men and women in biking helmets but no bikes the other day in downtown Washington DC I thought it was just a group that was walking too fast. But their limbs were not moving at all. In fact they looked like some statues transported in the back of a low-riding pickup truck. Then when I got near, my jaw dropped – they were all riding Segways, the bike-like transportation contraption that sells about five grand a piece.

The area has an incredible diversity in landscape that includes dry desert like conditions in the east and high mountains in the north and west. With the mighty Columbia River flowing through the area, there is also a lot of water recreation and beautiful scenery to see too.
